Concord, MA Historic Estate Radon & Arsenic Remediation
Comprehensive whole-house water filtration engineering eliminating 14,200 pCi/L radon and 16.5 ppb arsenic in Concord, MA while preserving historic architectural integrity.
Before & After Field Ledger
Symptoms & Site Diagnostics
A comprehensive water potability test on a historic Concord residential property revealed dangerous levels of naturally occurring waterborne radon gas (14,200 pCi/L vs. MassDEP 10,000 pCi/L guidance) and arsenic (16.5 ppb vs. the 10.0 ppb federal drinking water standard). The homeowner required complete whole-house water purification without altering the exterior historic aesthetic or introducing loud exhaust fans.
Execution & Field Intervention
Ogden Wells designed and installed a multi-barrier Point-of-Entry (POE) filtration suite. First, an Air-Cycle sealed diffuse bubble aeration tower was installed in the basement to agitate and exhaust radon gas safely above the roofline. Second, water was passed through a dual-tank Metsorb titanium dioxide adsorption system that permanently binds dissolved arsenic. Finally, a calcite neutralizing media filter was added to correct natural acidity (pH 6.1 to 7.2), protecting the home's copper plumbing.
